And the funniest thing happened while I was reading your post. My grandson popped straight into my mind. I told him “you killed it” the other day, and bless his little eight-year-old heart… he froze, eyes wide as saucers, looked right at me and said, “Nana! I didn’t kill anything, I promise!”
I tried to explain what I actually meant, but I’m not convinced it landed because he walked away shaking his head and mumbling, “Damn… Nana, you know I wouldn’t kill something.” (his exact words, and after the kill convo, I was not about to mention to him he said a bad word 😂)
So yes, consider this my clarified, fully neurotypical-friendly version. You killed it, you crushed it, and you did a damn beautiful job with that post. 💋
You don’t need to worry about using ‘neurodivergent-friendly’ language with me… I was mostly teasing you… I can be bad!!
Part of my mind does do the ‘austistic literalism thing’ (particularly if someone’s giving me instructions), but I’m hyperlexic, and I’m also old(ish), so I’ve been around the neurotypical world long enough to understand (and do) all the nuances of metaphor, simile, sarcasm, onomatopoeia (and spell it right first time!), alliteration, etc., etc., with all the rest of my mind. I’m self-aware enough to spot, and correct for, my literalism - quick enough that it mostly isn’t obvious!
